Major police operation underway in Ifo refugee camps in Daadab

DAADAB, KENYA: A major police operation is underway at the Ifo 1 and 2 to refugee camps inDaadab following a spate of attacks that have left several people dead in the past week.

The operation that is jointly conducted by GSU, regular and Administration police officers is also meant to recover firearms used in the killings.

Northeastern PPO Charlton Muriithi said the government was determined to apprehend suspects and end insecurity in the area.

Ifo refugee camp is one of the three refugeecamps hosting over six hundred thousand refuges of mainly from Somalia.

“We are determined to restore peace and order in the camps that has of late witnessed insecurity incidences,” said the PPO on phone.

The operation comes just a day after the killing of three night guards at the Ifo market.

The attackers who according to the survivors were armed with AK 47 rifles ambushed the watchmen, three dead and critically injured four others.

Two weeks ago a police reservists was shot dead at the Ifo market as he boarded a bus and his firearm stolen. His killers remain at large even though his fire arm was found on Monday.
