Ethiopia To Coninue Support For Somalia Till Sustainable Peace Ensured In That Country

Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn says Ethiopia will continue to strengthen its support for Somalia until sustainable peace is ensured in that neighbouring Horn of Africa nation.

He added during talks here Monday with a high-level delegation led by Somalia’s Prime Minister, Abdi Farah Shirdon, that ensuring peace and stability in Somalia significantly contributed to maintaining peace in the Horn of Africa and also speeding up development in surrounding countries.

He said the Ethiopian people and government would further strengthen overall support for Somalia until peace and stability became sustainable in Somalia.

The Prime Minister said the government of Somalia was expected to put in place a firm governmental structure to ensure the benefits of development for its people.

As the current Chair of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), a Horn of Africa grouping, Ethiopia would do its best towards ensuring the sustainability of the prevailing peace and stability in Somalia in addition to its ongoing support, he said.

Abdi Farah Shirdon lauded the support of the Ethiopian people and government to bring about peace and stability in Somalia.

He said the government of Somalia would work closely with Ethiopia to ensure peace and stability in Somalia and also the Horn of Africa.

The Prime Minister called on Ethiopia to further strengthen ongoing support to make sustainable the existing peace and stability in Somalia, according to a senior official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
