Germany to help fight terrorism

Germany Minister of Foreign Affairs Walter-Frank Steinmeier said Germany will offer training services to Kenya’s security agencies.

He spoke when he met Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed in Nairobi yesterday.

Amina said the violent extremism threatens the economic and political prosperity of the region.

“The conflicts in Somalia and South Sudan pose a great challenge to us as a region. In this regard the Germany government has undertaken to help in police training and intelligence gathering,” she said.

She condemned the Friday attack in Somalia where at least 10 people were killed and many injured in an attack that was claimed by al Shabaab.

“Such threats are what we must fight. Those barbaric attacks on innocent lives is what threaten our lives as Kenyans. That is why it is important to seek collaboration with our international partners in combating terrorism,” she said.
